‘Suds for Simon’ will take place at selected participating Maxol stations next week (w/c 29th August). During this week, participating service stations will advertise the ‘Suds for Simon’ campaign to encourage motorists to avail of Maxol carwash facilities in the knowledge that €2 (Republic of Ireland) and £1 (Northern Ireland) from every car wash will be donated directly to the Simon Communities in Ireland.
The Maxol carwash survey revealed a host of insights into how Irish motorists judge and are judged on their car’s appearance. 76% of respondents said that motorists driving clean cars were deemed to be more attractive. 63% said that sunny weather was the most important factor in deciding when to have their cars washed, taking precedence over a hot date, a wedding or an important business meeting.
The majority of motorists surveyed washed their cars once a month with 71% reporting that they preferred to wash their cars at a Service Station facility. Interestingly the long held belief that washing the car was a ‘man’s job’ was a misnomer with 72% strongly disagreeing with this statement.
Finally, Colin Farrell was deemed to be the celebrity that the majority of respondents would commonly prefer to wash their cars, with Jedward and Bertie Ahern just receiving 4% of suggestions.
At the launch of ‘Suds for Simon’ Brian Donaldson, General Manager, Marketing and Retail of Maxol said “Maxol is proud to work in partnership with Simon Communities in the Republic of Ireland and Simon Community Northern Ireland. These organisations work at the coal face of community development providing a lifeline to many individuals and families that have nowhere to go at the end of the day. ‘Suds for Simon’ is just one of the many ways Maxol is raising vital funds for Simon and with our survey showing just how much motorists love their cars to be clean we hope Suds for Simon encourages everyone to come to our forecourts and clean up for the charity!”
Patrick Quinn of Simon said, “The current economic crisis is impacting on us all, but most heavily on those the margins of our society; people who are homeless, people who are at risk of homelessness and people with many related needs. We are delighted to partner with Maxol on this exciting initiative and urge all car owners to get your car washed during the ‘Suds for Simon’ week and help a good cause at the same time!”
In addition to the ‘Suds for Simon’ carwash week, collection boxes for the Simon Community are in situ in most Maxol stations around the country.
