MAXOL TAKES STEPS TO STAMP OUT CRIME ON FORECOURTS

Over 90 Maxol licensees, dealers and employees met recently at a seminar designed to stamp out crime on forecourts.

The seminar which was held in conjunction with Crimestoppers, the national freephone crime fighting service, aimed to educate attendees on the importance of security and crime prevention.

As part of the project Maxol have also published a new pack called 'Crime prevention at service stations' offering advice on a wide range of issues including: correct operational procedures; crime prevention strategies; cash carrying advice; the training of employees and station operators; lock up procedures; what to do in the event of an armed hold-up and what to do after the robbery.

Commenting on the Crimestopper initiative, Brian Donaldson, Group Marketing Manager of Maxol said: 'Over the past few years we have seen an increase in crime targeted at filling stations and retail outlets. Maxol has always been conscious of the safety of our customers and staff when on our premises and by working with Crimestoppers we are confident that we can dramatically reduce the number of incidences on our forecourts'.

Detective Chief Inspector, Paul Hamlin commenting on the alliance said: 'Crimestoppers is involving the community at all levels to help the RUC fight crime. Running campaigns with companies such as Maxol has helped us to raise awareness of the service amongst the general public leading to more quality information being generated and arrests made'.

Crimestoppers is a national crime information collection scheme which enables the public to give information anonymously using the Crimestoppers freephone number. In each region a local board made up of businessmen, councillors, and other members of the community work together to promote the scheme and unite against crime.
