MAXOL LIMITED SPONSOR LONGFORD SLASHERS GAA SPORTS CLUB
Maxol, Europe’s leading independent oil company, has become the official sponsor of the Longford Slashers GAA Sports Club today (Friday 11 June 1999) for the next five years. This will significantly aid the club in the promotion of gaelic games in Longford Town and improve facilities at the club. Maxol has also been a proud sponsor of the Wicklow hurling team for the past two years.
Longford Slashers comprises of seven senior hurling and football teams and 12 teams in the under age section, as well as a ladies under age team. The club was formed in 1954 and has established itself as one of the top clubs in the country. In 1980, the club invested in new grounds and facilities at Farneyhoogan (on the outskirts of Longford), where the sporting facilities include two playing fields, dressing rooms, two squash courts and an indoor handball alley. Other recent developments include a bar, meeting rooms, function rooms, kitchen and catering facilities. An all-weather playing pitch is currently under construction, which is expected to be completed in 2000.
