Tuesday, April 24th: Maxol, Ireland’s leading family owned forecourt and convenience retailer, was pleased to celebrate the Maxol IURU Super Sevens tournament last Wednesday at Coolmine Rugby Club in Dublin. The third and final blitz saw the women’s DCU team take first place while, in the mens, UCD placed first in their league.
Mark Walsh, Maxol Regional Manager said:
“At Maxol, we are delighted to be able to continue our sponsorship of the IURU, which is now into its twenty-sixth year. Maxol believes in the mission of the IURU, which is to support the development of the community of young players in Ireland, and their love of the sport. Maxol values its long association with the IURU and the rugby community, and with our help we hope players can continue to enjoy the game for many years to come.”
The Maxol IURU Super Sevens tournament is comprised of three on-campus IURU Student Sevens blitzes, which include both men’s and women’s teams. Each squad consists of 12 players (including subs) and is supported by an individual coach and team manager, to help each team compete for first place throughout the six-week tournament. In preparation for the competition, the coaches from each participating third level side receive specialist Sevens training in Dublin from Matthew Willkie, Head of Coach Development at the IRFU.
Men’s and women’s Teams from UCD, Maynooth University, DCU and IT Carlow made up the final competing squads for the last blitz of the tournament on Wednesday.
