Maxol's Link With Marks & Spencer Set To Shake The Dust Off Oil Company Promotional Schemes

Maxol Link With Marks & Spencer Set To Shake The Dust Off Oil Company Promotional Schemes

Maxol, Europe’s leading independent oil company, has invested £750,000 in a new forecourt loyalty promotion, which was launched today (1 July 1999).

PointsPlus is the first instant, electronic loyalty card, which will be accepted in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and uses HTEC technology, the best system available for this type of scheme. It is also the first loyalty scheme to offer instant redemption and points checking facilities at any participating Maxol station.

The scheme, which has no registration or form-filling requirement, offers customers the opportunity to collect points with every purchase from participating Maxol service stations, which can then be redeemed at any Marks & Spencer store in Northern Ireland. There is also a fuel back option to gain discounts on Maxol products.

Points are issued with Maxol motor fuel, lubricants and car wash and each card when full is worth £5.

PointsPlus replaces Maxol’s Choices for People scheme, which will finish on 30 June 1999. However customers can continue to redeem their completed cards through at Marks & Spencer stores until 31 December 1999 and through the choices for people catalogue.

Commenting on the launch of the new loyalty scheme, Brian Donaldson, Group Marketing Manager of Maxol, said:

PointsPlus is a further indication of Maxol’s commitment to premium forecourt retailing. Our investment in state of the art technology means that PointsPlus is easy to use which reflects the demands of our customers. It is the simplest scheme to hit the Northern Ireland petrol retailing market. With Maxol you just collect your points, fill your card and get your M&S gift vouchers or discount of fuel.

The link with top High Street retailer, Marks & Spencer offers consumers a wide range of goods from daily shopping, wine and clothes to large household goods. The scheme is an opportunity to benefit from real cost savings.

Alice Quinn, Store Manager of Marks & Spencer, Belfast, said: Marks and Spencer are delighted to be part of the new Maxol PointsPlus promotion. We look forward to offering Maxol customers an exciting range of clothing and homeware along with extraordinary food and wine in exchange for Maxol points.

The launch of PointsPlus is supported by extensive marketing activity, including a new TV advertising campaign coupled with nationwide PR, promotional and direct mail support.
